The focus of the art fair is on international contemporary art. Excerpts from the exhibition program of ARTfair Innsbruck 2023

Presentation of Michel Friess as "Artist of the year 2023"

Friess is currently one of the most sought-after Pop Art artists and produces each of his works using an elaborate process of hand screen printing, painting, airbrushing and paper collage. His original works will be sold at ARTfair Innsbruck for between € 2,000 and € 20,000.

CREATIVITY AS THE GREATEST REBELLION IN EXISTENCE

ARTfair Special 2023
University of Pécs/Hungary – Faculty of Music and Fine Arts

The Faculty of Music and Fine Arts of the University of Pécs is primarily characterized by the concept of Gesamtkunstwerk, which is unique among Hungarian universities. This concept emphasizes the diversity of art, the thoughts of the exhibited works and the various technical solutions. The leading professors, students and artists of the faculty from the fields of painting, sculpture, ceramic art, graphic design and electric media art, will present their works. Traditional and renewed techniques will be presented in the exhibited works.

In the courses of the Institute of Music you can study classical music, but in the near future will also be offered the study of jazz. For some, certain directions of contemporary music are "too modern, difficult to understand and perceive". The University of Pécs would like to refute this prejudice with the music pieces to be performed and in professional performance. The musical world of the contemporary compositions - keeping the music-historical traditions at the same time - feeds on the spirit of the present, the social phenomena and the questions of everyday life are taken up as themes.

The musical program will focus on works by 20th and 21st century Hungarian and international composers in the performance of chamber groups. The groups will musically reflect with improvisations on the paintings, sculptures and installations exhibited by the faculty.

Modern dance is a new field in the educational portfolio of the Faculty of Music and Fine Arts, but its origin goes back 60 years, to the foundation of the "Pécsi Balett"-s (Pécs Ballet). Their performance transforms the sensations, mood of music and the exhibited works into movement.

The installation of the Chair of Design is connected with the anniversary "Petőfi 200". Sándor Petőfi was one of the most important poets of the reform era, had an important role during the Hungarian Revolution and the War of Independence 1948-49. Hungary dedicates to him, on the occasion of his birth 200 years ago, programs throughout the year.

One of the most important places of the social meetings was the café. Connected to the "Reform Time" circle of thoughts of "Petőfi 200", further interacting with the planned theme of gastronomy, the University of Pécs would like to present the installation "Café" at ARTfair Innsbruck 2023.
The stand of the Faculty of Music and Fine Arts must be imagined as the "world of a café", which is the central inspiration of a special absurd artistic expression. From this basic aspect the University of Pécs introduces itself and the artistic ideas will connect to it. In the realization, integrations can be seen that worthily represent the spirituality of the professors and students. It is a simple starting point, but it offers many possibilities of association.

The scene of a café, as a meeting place for social life, for artists and intellectuals, allows the liberating connection between existence or presence and the actually distant scene. It is particularly interesting to reflect on a distant place that no longer physically exists in the present time. In this sense, it can appear as a more visual evidence in modern form, which justifies the liberation and the representation. The University of Pécs reflects on the attractive parallel of everyday life, which makes the eternal existence of the Young Men of March (designation of young men in the revolution in 1848) tangible in our everyday life.

What is creativity and what connects art with gastronomy and general art, according to Ákos Lokodi - among others - can be explained with two quotes:

"Creativity is the greatest existing rebellion. If you want to create something, you have to let go of all the conviction raised in you, otherwise your creativity will be no different than a copy, just an indigo swipe. You can be creative only if you have a personality." Osho

"There is no creativity controlled by rules. (...) If we look for rules in creativity, it is as if we wanted to separate the mind from the body." Frank Herbert

One could list all the keywords that ever influenced gastronomy and art, for example "playfulness" "humor", "humility", "perseverance", "renewal", "proportionality" and so on.
The gastronomic concept presented in ARTfair can be described with three words: "creativity - proportionality - reinvention".
How else could #the mostly characteristic ingredients of the Hungarian cuisine be shown, especially on the international stage, when the artworks of a fresh faculty, ready to reinvent itself, charged with creative energy, trying to complement with gastronomy on an international level?

"I believe that with proper openness, we not only become more tolerant, but also richer."

Ákos Lokodi - creative chief

Die Künstlerische Möglichkeiten der 3D-Digitaltechnologie
by Atila Atila

im tunnel
die tenörin

At the 27th ARTfair Innsbruck, AI artist and expert Atila Atila invites you to the Exploration of Dimensions: a journey through 3D digital worlds.
This art project is about exploring the artistic possibilities of 3D and AI digital technology and taking the audience on a fascinating journey through virtual worlds. The concept is based on the following core ideas:

1. multi-sensory experience: engaging all the senses

2. themes of transformation: artworks can represent change, metamorphosis and transformation of natural phenomena or human experiences

3. virtual realities: Use of virtual reality (VR) technology to provide viewers with the most immersive experience possible.

4. collaboration with technology: artists work with experts in 3D digital technology to create unique artworks.

5. interaction with the audience, which is an important component.

6. digital sustainability: digital art is also permanent.

NFTs

The link between 3D art and NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) has gained considerable momentum in recent years. NFTs are digital certificates that represent the ownership rights to a unique digital asset, be it an image, a video, a music file or even a 3D sculpture.

Digital 3D artworks as NFTs

Artists can create and sell their 3D artworks in the form of NFTs on blockchain platforms such as Ethereum. This allows them to tokenize digital sculptures, models and animations as unique digital assets and sell them to collectors.

Certificates of authenticity

NFTs serve as digital certificates of authenticity for 3D artworks. Each NFT contains metadata that includes information about the artwork, the artist and the transaction history. This ensures that the artwork is authentic and that the artist owns the original source.

Artistic autonomy

Artists can sell their 3D artworks as NFTs without having to rely on galleries or middlemen. This gives artists more creative freedom and control over the sales process and pricing of their work.

Collectors' market

NFTs have created a new market for digital art that is being exploited by collectors and investors. Some NFT artworks have fetched high prices on the market, and artists can benefit from resales as they often receive a share of subsequent sales.

Decentralized nature

The blockchain technology on which NFTs are based ensures the decentralization of the art market. This means that artworks and transactions are recorded securely and immutably, without the need for a central authority.

Interactive 3D art

Some artists use NFTs to create interactive 3D artworks. These artworks can be experienced in virtual worlds or augmented reality applications, creating a whole new art and collector experience.

NFTs have undoubtedly changed the way digital artworks are created, sold and traded, offering artists new ways to monetize and share their creative works.

MICHEL FRIESS
ARTIST OF
THE YEAR 2023

Artist of the year 2023
Michel Friess, presented by Art-Galerie am Hofsteig, Wolfurt-AT

"EVERYTHING IS POP AND POP IS EVERYTHING! POP ART IS MY LOVE AND MY LIFE!"

"Michel Friess is currently one of the most successful and important German and international Pop Art artists. In addition to countless awards and art prizes (e.g. the International Leonardo Da Vinci Prize, the Frida Kahlo Prize, the International Art Prize New York and many more), he was awarded the "Oscar of the art scene" - " THE GLOBAL ART AWARD 2020" - in Shanghai in November 2020. - 1st place in the Mixed Media / Graffiti category. He has thus finally become the most successful representative of German Contemporary Pop Art. Michel Friess' works can now be found in over 70 renowned galleries. His international breakthrough came in 2016. From Shanghai and Singapore to Las Vegas, New York, Los Angeles and Miami. His works now hang alongside the great pop art icons such as Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein and Banksy in international galleries.

Born in Neustadt an der Weinstraße in the summer of 1970, Michel Friess was already interested in art at a young age, especially street art. He was already a graffiti artist on his skateboard at the age of 16 and, after a long break, dedicated himself to pop art in 2008. He entered the professional art world a short time later with portrait works for celebrities.

Michel Friess produces his outstanding and elaborate unique pieces entirely by hand in his studio in Kaiserslautern in southwest Germany. His wife Mel assists him. His dedication to detail is unmistakable. His pictures tell stories, they capture the viewer and his thoughts and there is always something new to discover. His works are created using complex techniques such as painting, the use of spray cans, hand screen printing, paint rollers, wild splashes of paint, as well as the use of iconic newspapers, posters, rare comic books and much more, which make each work of art absolutely unique. Michel Friess produces each work to order and individually as a one-off in his loft studio in Kaiserslautern - a former file factory from the 1950s. The spirit and flair of his almost legendary workshop is reflected in many of his works and motifs. Many well-known personalities have already visited him on his premises.

The artist attaches great importance to complete craftsmanship. His unique works are mainly created using hand screen printing, whereby each individual screen is made by himself from wood and covered by hand. This is a very laborious method, as he sometimes uses over 20 different screens per picture.

With his mixed technique of hand screen printing, painting, airbrushing with a spray can and paper collages, he creates works in which the dedication and attention to detail are clearly visible and tangible in each of his works. The fact that Michel Friess loves what he does is unmistakable - a clear signature."

POSITIONS OF
REALISTIC
& FANTASTIC ART
IN THE INTERNATIONAL CONTEXT

ARTfair Special 2023
Gallery Dikmayer, Berlin/DE

The images are protected by copyright and may only be used for reporting purposes provided the exhibiting gallery @Galerie Dikmayer is mentioned

Gallery owner Joachim Dikmayer is once again presenting a curated ART special on the topic of “Fantastic Realism”.

The Dikmayer Gallery from Berlin works very closely with House Schulenburg Gera. Changing exhibitions take place in this impressive ambience and the focus is always on 20th century and contemporary art.  Some of the gallery's artists have already been represented in cabinet and solo exhibitions in the museum, and more will follow

In recent years, the most important representatives of the world-famous Vienna School of Fantastic Realism from Austria, such as Ernst Fuchs and Rudolf Hausner, and their successors have been on display.
“The concept of the gallery is to bring contemporary and current art into the focus of events and to present it at an outstanding location for the art trade such as ARTfair Innsbruck. We try to exhibit art between object and abstraction. There is no dogma, the works should express high aesthetic standards and, above all, quality,” sums up Dikmayer.

THE ART OF KOSHER DISTILLATION & STEVLIK'S
ART PHOTOGRAPHY

Dusan Stevlik's photography artwork is a mesmerizing exploration of the art of kosher distillation. Through his lens and unique perspective, he masterfully combines elements of people, Industry, and tradition to create a captivating visual narrative that unveils the centuries-old secrets of kosher distillation, long held by spiritual leaders of the Ashkenazi community. Stevlik's work transports viewers to the heart of Eastern Europe's Carpathian Region, where the "Alte Heim" the Old Home in Yiddish, stands as a symbol of time-honored tradition and craftsmanship. His photographs offer an intimate glimpse into the meticulous process of creating an award-winning premium kosher spirit, inspired by the rich stories of Jozsef Stevlik, Dusan's  grandfather. The images captured by Dusan Stevlik are a testament to his keen eye for detail and deep appreciation for the artistry that intertwines with the distillation process. Each photograph paints a vivid picture of the hands and faces behind this intricate craft, illustrating the dedication and passion of the individuals who have carried forward this tradition for generations.

In Stevlik's art, you'll witness the elegant dance of copper stills and the reverence with which the artisans handle their craftwork. These images not only showcase the beauty of the distillation process but also pay homage to the resilience of a community that has preserved its traditions through the ages.

Through his lens, Dusan Stevlik not only captures the technical aspects of distillation but also the soul and spirit of a heritage deeply rooted in the Carpathian Region. His work is a celebration of the connection between generations, where the past and the present converge to create something truly exceptional—a kosher craft spirit that stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of Jozsef Stevlik and the artistry of the Carpathian people. Enjoy this outstanding piece of art that transcends photography, inviting you to immerse yourself in a world where tradition converge to create a masterpiece
of craftsmanship and culture. Dusan Stevlik's photography is a visual journey that will leave you with a profound appreciation for the art of kosher distillation and the rich tapestry of history it represents.
The story of Dusan Stevlik's journey to the Holy Land of Israel to discover the secret recipes of Kosher Distillation after 40 years since he had to leave his Carpathian Homeland as a young boy is truly captivating. His travels through the biblical lands of the Negev Desert, from Accaba to Haifa, and the encounters with interesting people who guided him towards the Ancient Guardians of Kosher embedded in the Books of Moses, are filled with adventure and mystery. Through this spectacular journey filled with obstacles, Dusan Stevlik has successfully created an outstanding Fruit Spirit Specialty, representing the ancient heritage of the Carpathian Lands of Eastern Europe. The combination of history, culture, and traditional knowledge of distillation techniques has culminated in a unique and remarkable product. To share his extraordinary experience, Dusan Stevlik will be exhibiting marvellous Photography Artwork, documenting the road and history of this ancient heritage, at the prestigious Art Fair Innsbruck in the Olympiahall 2023.

Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity not only to witness the visual journey but also to participate in a spirit tasting session, allowing them to savor the fruits of Dusan's labor. The event promises to be a fascinating fusion of art, history, and culture, offering attendees an immersive experience into the world of Kosher Distillation and the rich Carpathian heritage. It is an occasion not to be missed for art enthusiasts, connoisseurs of spirits, and those who appreciate the magic of storytelling. Through Dusan Stevlik's dedication and passion, this exhibition will undoubtedly be a memorable and inspiring event, showcasing the beauty and  significance of preserving ancient traditions and the power of storytelling through art.

Study by the Umit Tirol,
Private University for Health Sciences and Technology

UMIT TIROL - Private University for Health Sciences and Technology, in collaboration with researchers from the Berlin School of Psychology and the University of Geneva, is conducting a research project to investigate the effect of music on the emotions of people who look at works of art or listen to music. The project is funded by the Tiroler Wissenschaftsförderung (TWF) and has been approved by the Research Committee for Scientific Ethical Questions (RCSEQ) of UMIT TIROL.

Two anonymous online studies are planned: one for the effect of art on emotions and one for music.

The aim of the study is to develop a short questionnaire for aesthetic emotions, which can also be used in future for further studies such as the positive effect of cultural events or museum visits on visitors.

The target group of the study is adults with an interest in and enjoyment of art (or music). For this reason, visitors to the ARTfair Innsbruck are an ideal part of this target group.

In order to publicize the study, flyers will be distributed to the visitors of ARTfair Innsbruck.

You can find more information about the study here!
